Fovitec StudioPRO Photo Studio 850W Auto Pop-up Softbox 20" x 28" Photo Video Lighting Kit Review

Hey what's up everyone! Bryan here, and today I'm going to go over this 850w Softbox Continuous lighting setup that I received from Fovitec.  I've been using it for a few weeks while on assignment to take product photos and I'd have to say it's been a pleasure to use compared to a lot of other light setups that I've tried in the past.

You can definitely use the Fovitec Softbox light setup to take portraits or record video, but in this case I tested out the kit to mainly help out with my product photos.  When taking pictures of opaque or shiny objects, I've found that flash based lighting systems aren't the best choice when taking product photos.  Since this lighting setup emits bright continuous light, it makes taking product pictures a breeze.

Whether you're a beginner, enthusiast, amateur, or advanced amateur photographer trying to  get into product photography, this Fovitec light setup is definitely something to check out!  It's easy to use, lightweight, transportable, and best of all, it packs quite a punch, delivering 850 watts of bright light to make your photography pop!

Tech Specs

This lighting setup comes with Two 20" x 28" Rectangle Softboxes, Two 7' 6" Professional Quality Adjustable Light Stands, Two 85 Watt Bulbs that emit 5500K Daylight, and One StudioPro Lighting Equipment Carrying bag.

Easy Setup, Easy Breakdown

One of my favorite things about this lighting setup is how easy it is to setup, breakdown, and store for future use. A lot of other softbox lighting setups are a pain to setup and breakdown.  But not this setup.  All you have to do are put the stands up, pop open the softboxes, place the diffusers on, plug in the lights, turn them on, and voila, the perfect light setup.

Here are some pictures to illustrate how easy it is to place the system in the travel bag:

Here are some product photos that I've taken with this lighting setup.  You can see how the detail of the products really show when using the Fovitec lighting system.

Without proper lighting, shadows are casted on the stool, and the back of the stool isn't illuminated. If shot without lighting, the picture will be unusable.

With the Fovitech system properly illuminating the stool, you can see that the shadows are less harsh and the back is illuminated. Since we're using a softbox, we're able to precisely control where the light falls on the subject.

Here is the final image of the stool after taking it into photoshop. The subject is properly lit, which highlights legs of stool and allows you to see the texture on the fabric of the sea.  Everything looks great!

Before & After: No lighting, With Lighting, and Final Product using the Fovitec StudioPro Light Setup

Improper Lighting, With Lighting, & Final Product Image

Summary

As you can see, lighting is a crucial aspect of product photography - well pretty much all of photography in general. Without the proper lighting, your photos will turn out underexposed and even through editing programs, the end result photo will lack clarity and detail.

Whenever I go on assignment to take product photos, I always make sure I have the proper lighting setup.  But I didn't always think that way since I was still learning. There have been a few times when I didn't have access to continuous lighting when taking product photos and to be honest, the pictures I took were pretty much unusable by the client. What a terrible feeling that was. Never again!   Since most of the product photos I take are used on e-commerce websites for various companies or start ups it's now always a must to have the right lighting source so that the product photos best represent the company.

So if you're looking to get your first continuous lighting system, I'd definitely recommend getting this Fovitec StudioPRO Photo Studio 850W Auto Pop-up Softbox 20" x 28" Photo Video Lighting Kit!
